Rover's return: Precious 1907 tourer returns to Coventry birthplace for one day only
Published: 12/03/2024
The British Motor Museum is sending its precious 1907 Rover 20hp Tourer to a unique event this Saturday (16th March) in Coventry.
It is going back to the place where it was built - a real 'Rovers Return' !
The Joint Rover Clubs, and MotoFest Coventry event celebrates the Rover marque’s 140 year association with ‘motor city’ – centred around the original site of the company’s ‘Meteor Works No. 2’, in the Bull Yard, which will soon be redeveloped.
Owners of all generations of Rover cars are invited to display their vehicles in Broadgate (the main event space at the heart of Coventry city centre) - and at the original Rover Showroom premises on Warwick Row - still open to visitors as ‘LTB’ (aka the ‘Litten Tree Building’), a thriving Community Arts Space.
The Coventry premises is the first purpose-built Car Showrooms in the UK – a lavish building where purchasers could admire new models, order - then collect - vehicles, built in the factory directly behind.
There are now over 40 post-WW2 cars booked into Broadgate but there's still room for more, say the organisers
In addition to seeing all the cars and chatting to their owners, attendees and visitors will be able to participate in the following activities taking place in the Litten Tree Building (LTB), c.300m away:-
9.00 Informal internal tours of the LTB
10.00 Talks in LTB
- The Rover Company and the Meteor Works - Mike Maher, RSR Chairman
- Tom Commander talks about his grandfather's role in Rover before WW2
- The LTB building and the surroundings - Mark Cook, local historian
11.00 Short walking tour of LTB surroundings, led by Mark Cook and informal internal tours of the LTB
