National Motor Museum Celebrates 50th Anniversary

Published: 12/07/2022

On Sunday, 3 April perfect weather conditions provided the opportunity for the Beaulieu Museum to celebrate fifty years since formation.

A wide range of vehicles that could have been parked in the car parks in 1972 set the scene perfectly whilst The Carousels performed Seventies hits in the background.
The anniversary celebration also marked the launch of The Story of Motoring in 50 Objects. The objects were carefully chosen from over 1.7 million items in the internationally-acclaimed collection cared for by the National Motor Museum Trust. Curators whittled down the selection to a shortlist of 150, then made the final choice to include the most historically important vehicles, motoring artefacts, film footage, images, documents and books from its archives.

The objects are divided into several categories for pioneering motoring; achievement and endeavour; technology, progress and environment; art, advertising and design; industry and economy and finally for society, mobility and leisure.

The exhibition remains open until 16 April 2023.
