International Driving Permits available at PayPoint stores from 1 April 2024

Published: 04/03/2024

Following the DVLA's decision to renew its contract for certain services with the Post Office, it has now announced that the issue of International Driving Permits (IDP) - not included in the new contract - will in future be handled by shops in the PayPoint network.

It means that the provider of international driving permits (IDPs) is changing. From 1 April 2024, IDPs will be available exclusively from participating PayPoint stores across the UK.

An IDP is not usually required for the majority of popular holiday destinations abroad. However, there are over 140 countries, including Turkey, Mexico, Canada and Australia, where an IDP is recommended or required if you’re planning to drive. There are 3 types of IDP and which one you need will depend on which country you’re visiting, find out more at GOV.UK.

If you’re travelling before 1 April 2024 and need an IDP, you will need to visit a participating Post Office branch. If you’re travelling on or after 1 April 2024, you will need to go to participating PayPoint stores. Further information on where those stores are located will be available on GOV.UK from 1 April.
