Heidi Alexander becomes new Transport Secretary

Former Deputy Mayor of London, for Transport, Heidi Alexander MP, has become the new Transport Secretary, following the sudden resignation of Louise Haig.
The Federation of Historic Vehicle Clubs warmly welcomes Ms Alexander's appointment and looks forward to working with her to ensure the continued use, without restriction, of historic vehicles on our roads.
FBHVC Chairman David Whale has written to Ms Alexander today (29 November) welcoming her to the post of Transport Secretary, and has received a response.
The appointment has not come as a surprise, as Ms Alexander was widely tipped to become Transport Secretary before the election. Instead, she was appointed Minister of State for Courts and Legal Services at the Ministry of Justice.
First elected to parliament as MP for Lewisham East (2010-2018), she resigned her seat to become Deputy Mayor under Sadiq Khan, serving until 2021.
In June 2022 she was selected as the Labour candidate for the Swindon South constituency; the town where she was born. Previously held by Conservative Robert Buckland, the 'bellweather' seat was won by Ms Alexander with a 9,606 majority in July 2024.
