I.S. Polson was established in 1978 as specialist restorers of Talbot cars, but also with the ability and experience to work on a wide variety of quality cars from the 1900s up to the Second World War. As well as Talbots, we have unparalleled knowledge of competition Delahaye and Delage cars of the 1930s, having owned one of these cars since 1967 and we have worked on the majority of these cars still in existence and built several tool room copies.

Ian Polson, the founder, a Graduate Mechanical Engineer with a background working for major companies in the motor industry in both Australia and the UK, had been involved in old cars as a hobby for many years. Through his training and experience he recognised the Talbot motor cars produced between 1903 and 1937 as outstanding examples of automotive design and engineering and this inspired him to setup I.S. Polson in 1978, with his wife, Pam. In January 2018 I S Polson changed legal status to Ian Polson LLP with John Polson, Ian and Pam’s son, joining the new partnership at that time. John also set up a new business called Polson Motor Company Limited, specialising in the sale of sports, competition and touring cars of the highest quality. Ian Polson LLP and Polson Motor Company Limited share the same purpose-built 2000 square foot showroom in rural Suffolk. This now offers the unique opportunity for buyers, sellers, enthusiasts of restoration projects and servicing of cars all on one site.

I.S. Polson has an experienced and comprehensive team offering full restoration facilities including a comprehensive machine shop, facilities for white metalling and line boring, full sheet metal and welding facilities and a paint shop which has turned out cars which have been successful at major concours. We can overhaul complete cars from scratch and rebuild major units such as engines, gearboxes, axles etc. All rebuilt engines are dynamometer tested in house.

We have rebuilt and prepared many race and rally winning cars and as such we have the ability to ensure your car performs to its best abilities on the race track or rally stage and we can also offer support on these events.

We have a large selection of new and second hand Talbot spares and undertake routine maintenance and servicing for all pre-War car types.
