VSCC Celebrates International Women
Published: 26/03/2021
To mark International Women's Day 2021, the Vintage Sports-Car Club curated a two hour programme hosted across social media and their website to celebrate women involved in the Club.
Club Secretary, Tania Brown, said:
"Women have been involved in the Club since its formation in 1934, and International Women’s Day presented a perfect opportunity to share the stories of those who compete, marshal and supporting the Club. Their stories were shared on Monday 8th March and are inspiring, passionate and sum up the Club ethos, to enjoy vintage and pre-war cars together".
Highlights included an interview with prominent Guild of Motoring Writers member, Lara Platman, who talked about some of the ‘fast ladies’ of yesteryear which was presented alongside stories from current members including our remarkable amateur racers Liz Cawley, Rebecca Smith, Jo Blakeney-Edwards, Sue Darbyshire and Rebecca Gunn and marshals Angela Jones and Rachel Bolton-King.
Another reoccurring theme was the family friendly, welcoming nature of the Club. There has been much discussion recently about making both motorsport and the classic car community more welcoming to participants of all ages and genders. The VSCC remain committed to providing a positive, warm environment to encourage the involvement of anyone who is passionate about classic cars.
