Sheffield Clean Air Zone - Live
Published: 28/02/2023
Sheffield’s clean air zone went live from Monday 27 February 2023. This is a class C chargeable zone which applies only to heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), light goods vehicles (LGVs), vans, buses, coaches and taxis that drive within the inner ring road and city centre.
Private cars and motorbikes will not be charged.
In a Class C Clean Air Zone charges apply to specific types of vehicles that do not meet the minimum standards. These are:
- taxis, including both Hackney Carriages and private hire vehicles, which are below Euro 6 Diesel or Euro 4 Petrol
- light goods vehicles (LGVS) such as vans, campervans and pickup trucks and minibuses which are below Euro 6 Diesel or Euro 4 Petrol
- buses and coaches which are below Euro 6 Diesel
- heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) which are below Euro 6 Diesel
National exemptions apply to the CAZ which means that vehicles in the historic vehicle tax class are exempt from charges. In addition as a further benefit to vehicle preservation, non-commercial vintage buses are exempt from charges for up to 10 days in any calendar year. To qualify, these buses must be registered with the local authority and able to prove that they are more than 20 years old, being used exclusively for show or educational purposes and not being used primarily for the carrying of passengers for commercial purposes.
