Motorsport enthusiasts rally to Llandow circuit - CANCELLED

Published: 14/04/2023

IMPORTANT UPDATE 17 APRIL 2023

THIS EVENT AT LLANDOW CIRCUIT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO THE SUDDEN (severe Covid) ILLNESS OF THE ORGANISER, RICHARD MORGAN.

Richard apologies to all those who planned to come, and tells us that he plans to run the event in support of next year's Drive it Day (21 April 2024) instead.

April 23 is the day that owners of modern and historic cars and motorbikes that are in the “classic and historic style” are invited to be part of the first “Drive It Day, Drive In” to be held at Llandow circuit near Cowbridge.

The event is part of the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Club’s ‘Drive It Day’ and ‘Ride it Day’ activities – a national initiative that sees thousands of enthusiasts get into their cars or don their leathers and drive their cherished vehicle on this day for charity.

The aim of the event at Llandow is to raise funds for NSPCC Cymru Childline® with participants proudly displaying their commemorative Drive It Day Rally plate, which they receive in exchange for a donation to Childline.

“We invite fellow enthusiasts and their families to join us for breakfast from 9 o’clock on the 23rd. We’ll be raising funds whilst raising a roar with an eclectic display of two and four wheeled vehicles display parked in the Paddock at Llandow for a meetup with fellow enthusiasts.

“It promises to be a great opportunity for people to admire fabulous vehicles, visit the café, and experience the camaraderie of the occasion” explains event organiser, Richard Morgan.

The event will be a double-first, as it also is the first event of Wheelspinners, a new initiative he is driving forward with the circuit owners.

“Wheelspinners will be a breakfast club open to all car and motorbike enthusiasts and will host monthly ’drive in’s’ at Llandow, which will also support NSPCC Cymru” he confirmed.

Given Llandow circuit’s illustrious heritage as the scene of classic racing duels closely fought on two and four wheels, and its hosting of a stage of the International Welsh Rally in its heyday, Morgan has a special invitation for those who have road legal racing or rally machinery.

“The centrepiece of the paddock will be a concours style display of competition vehicles. We will have a team of illustrious judges joining us who will choose the vehicle which for them best represents the spirit of motorsport.

“Whichever vehicle gets the most judges votes will win a complimentary place on our charity track day in aid of NSPCC Cymru to be held in the summer at Llandow” Morgan explained.

“Last year Drive It Day raised £47,000, and this year our goal is to assist in passing the £50,000 point.  Will you help us achieve that goal?  Your involvement could make that difference” he concluded.

To take part in the event on 23rd April and order your Rally Plate go to www.driveitday.co.uk

To register your vehicle and reserve your place, or to discuss your involvement, contact Richard Morgan on 07546 102032

Richard Morgan is the son of the first Welsh Rally Champion, Randal Morgan, who became a three times UK Rally Champion and works rally co-driver in the 1960s.

This event, supporting NSPCC Cymru Childline® is part of the celebrations Richard is organising to honour his father’s achievements this year, some 60 years since he first started his rallying career.
