Climate change conscious drivers and their vehicles are invited to take part in a brand new motoring event that sees entrants strive for the lowest carbon emissions whilst driving from Paris to Venice. And, classics are welcome...
Key points:
• The inaugural LeZero ‘rally’ will be held in November 2023.
• There will be two categories for the event – Adventurer and Competition.
• The 1,300km route will pass through four countries.
• Winning teams will be those with the lowest carbon ratio ‘emissions’.
• The event will run annually in the lead up to the COP summit.
LeZero is a brand new zero carbon ‘rally’ with two categories for entrants – Adventurer and Competition.
The ‘Adventurer’ allows entrants to complete the 1,300km route, which passes through four countries, at their own pace. They will set off on or after the 12th November with the aim of crossing the finish line on 25th November.
Also pushing for the finish line will be the Competition category with entrants leaving Paris a week later on 19th November. However, as well as the route, they will also face the additional challenge of both timed and speed sections similar to historic rally formats.
The winning teams will be those with the lowest carbon ratio emissions and as the race is to zero, concessions will be provided for range and time.
Organised by non-profit foundation Envirorally, director Clara Stone explains: “Le Zero was created to celebrate the historic Paris Agreement, and to champion the development of breakthrough net zero innovation with a zero carbon race to zero. It is the first event of its kind, and we are thrilled to be working with some amazing partners in bringing this event to fruition.
“The inaugural race starts in Paris where the race to zero began, along some of the most scenic roads of Europe, finishing in Venice – the oldest city of the future.”
Open to any zero carbon vehicle, each team must contain a minimum of two members as driver and navigator.
All transportation within the race will be calculated, including any train, ferry, or plane trips and added to the overall emissions.
Time controls will be placed along the routes between concentration start points and race end points - arrival times will be allocated for each classification. Carbon points will be added for early or late arrival.
Carbon usage for food and accommodation will be recorded by each team on an honour basis. (Eco and sustainable overnight stays are encouraged as accommodation). Teams will also be required to offset their carbon footprint through Blue Marble’s offsetting projects.
Envirorally’s events are designed exclusively for zero carbon vehicles.
Standard/production, modified, converted and bespoke electric cars are all welcome to participate.
LeZero is an event organised by Envirorally supporting net zero projects worldwide. Its purpose is to promote the role innovation is playing in achieving a net zero future.
LeZero will run annual events that coincide with the UN’s Climate Change Conferences increasing engagement and visibility of the latest net zero solutions.
