DVSA - COVID-19: Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA)

Published: 22/04/2020

On Friday 23 March, we announced the suspension of regular IVAs.

This decision was taken to make sure we could prioritise critical vehicles involved with the response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, such as ambulances.

It is important for us to continue to prioritise IVAs in this way. But we also know there are areas where the IVA scheme enables businesses to continue operating.

From Monday 27 April, we will look to carry out inspections on a broader range of vehicles which allows:

  • emergency vehicles involved with the coronavirus response to be prioritised
  • goods to continue to be delivered
  • companies to continue to operate within the limitations of the lockdown

The safety of our staff and customers is at the forefront of our considerations. We will carry out physical inspections where it’s safe to do so and we’ve got the resource available. In some cases we will carry out inspections remotely.

We have published updated advice on the process to get an IVA. Please refer to: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-vehicle-approval-tests

We are grateful for all you are doing to help keep the country moving through this challenging period.
