Classics for Carers

Fundraiser follow-up brings motoring community together, for NHS show of support. CLASSICS FOR CARERS – 7th June 2020
Wednesday 13th May – Building on the motoring community’s united show of support for NHS carers during its inaugural event, Classics for Carers returns to offer some summer solace, in the continued period of at-home isolation.
Set to return on 7th June, the National Stay At Home Motor Show is once again inviting classic car and bike enthusiasts, clubs and businesses to exhibit a nation-wide show of appreciation for NHS carers and their remarkable effort and sacrifice throughout the pandemic.
Commenting on the event opener, organiser Nick Chivers said:
“The response to the first event from classic car and bike owners, clubs and companies was truly inspirational. A real national statement of support for the brave and selfless NHS carers. On the day of the show, the individual and community led micro-motor shows were united across our media channels, to allow people to share their vehicles, displays and fundraising support.”
As social distancing measures remain in place to protect the NHS and save lives, the motoring and motorsport sector endures a prolonged period of postponed and cancelled meetings, shows and races. With motorsport’s headline series preparing for the possibility of a season with no races, it’s not just Formula 1 bosses facing a sparse calendar and a lack of visiting fans. Many of the much loved and crowd-pleasing gatherings of enthusiasts, have seen dates pushed back to the autumn or cancelled entirely until 2021. The sympathetic messages to event organisers in support of difficult cancellation decisions, reflect the adherence to government advice and respect for the NHS by the motoring community.
In this vein, the first weekend in May saw significant uptake in Classics For Carers participants. Bringing together the individual and community fundraising exhibitions by car and bike enthusiasts across the United Kingdom and overseas, the national event raised over £13,500. Drawn from generous donations and the sale of event specific rally plates and stickers (where all profits go to the charity), ‘show goers’ and passers-by made the at home show a truly unique experience.
The 7th June show sequel will once again provide an opportunity to roll out your restoration or park your pride and joy on the driveway. Owing to the success and feedback from May’s event, a call for a comeback couldn’t be ignored. So adhering to current social distancing guidelines, Classics for Carers stands as a sign of thanks and respect to NHS carers, when the motoring community can purchase souvenir event rally plates or stickers for their vehicles (where all profits go to the NHS charity) or make a donation via the event’s JustGiving page.
