Great British Car Journey
Great British Car Journey & Drive Dad’s Car
Located in Ambergate, Derbyshire, Great British Car Journey is a brand-new visitor attraction opening in May 2021.
Boasting a collection of over 150 modern British classics, including one of the last cars to roll off the Longbridge production line, Great British Car Journey tells the story of the rise and fall of the British motoring industry from the early 1900s to the turn of the century.
Beginning with the iconic Austin Seven and ending with a stunning McLaren 650S, the Great British Car Journey features all the classics and some of the lesser-known vehicles, like the Gilbern Invader and Austin Atlantic.
Each vehicle has its own special place in British motor manufacturing history, and each have their own story to tell – from Elton John’s Bentley, to the car driven by British High Court judge Sir Fenton Atkinson during the high-profile trial of the Moors murderers.
Featuring more than 30 British car marques, visitors are guided around the exhibition with a unique handheld audio-visual device transporting them on an interactive journey through the decades of British car design and manufacturing.
And you can even drive some of the hero cars of the ages at the unique onsite diving experience -– Drive Dad’s Car.
Drive Dad’s Car gives you the opportunity to get behind the wheel of over 30 of the most popular cars ever made in Britain. Choose from an Austin Seven or a Rolls Royce Silver Spirit and everything in between, including the Mini, Morris Minor and Ford Capri!
You'll have less power than most modern cars and the brakes and steering will require more effort. If the car has a radio, it will probably only work intermittently and if you have any old cassettes, feel free to bring them with you!
Your car will have been built in Britain sometime in the last 80 years and will hold memories which your drive will reawaken. For many it will be an iconic Mini of which more than 5 million were sold throughout the world, but it might be an Allegro, a Cortina or an Escort, Britain’s best-selling car of the 1980s.
All Drive Dad’s Car Experiences include free admission for the driver to Great British Car Journey. Any extra members of your party gain concessionary access to the exhibition which includes a café and gift shop.
